This needs to change…

Alright, football fans! Just a few more days to go until the pubs are back open and life gets one step closer to normal. Lush.

Is football barking up the wrong tree?

Last month, Premier League giants Manchester United agreed a seemingly eye-watering £47m per season deal with TeamViewer to be their new shirt sponsors.

But whilst that figure may seem huge, it is a considerable downgrade on their previous £64m per year contract with Chevrolet, signed nearly a decade a go.

Many advertisers in the football industry are starting to wise up that such sponsorships are old-fashioned, ineffective, and just too expensive. Still, clubs will rely on it as a key source of income.

Toon fans push for fan power!

Newcastle United: Home to England's most “delusional” fans

The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) have urged fans to come together and purchase shares in the club to help influence key decisions amidst potential takeovers.

The so-called 1892 Pledge, which has been three years in the making, aims to ensure Toon fans are given a real voice within the club after its sale by current owner Mike Ashley in the not-too-distant-future..

The current goal is to purchase at minimum a 1% stake

NUST chair, Greg Tomlinson, said: “For decades, fans have been told they are the lifeblood of the club, but when major decisions are made, they are always left out.

Raising funds will give us the financial backing to make our voices properly heard as and when the club is eventually sold.”

Over recent years, the game has started to see and reap the real benefits of fans taking vital roles in decision making – it’s great to see another club move one step closer towards this.

Gills back on top!

We’re already starting to get some runaway winners! Congrats to Gillingham fans, who top this week’s club leaderboard after the Easter double-header weekend.

They’ve had criticism for their on-field antics over recent weeks – but it’s fair to say their fans are certainly smashing it on FanHub.

Birmingham City and Pompey both also find themselves up there, sitting in second and third respectively. Saints and Villa fans – you may be Premier League, but that’s not going to win you points on FanHub 👀

On the all fans leaderboard, Jord Loud and Proud (Stoke City) comes in as top fan with a perfect 100 FanRating, whilst joeffu(Hull City) and JCoppins (Gillingham) are close runners up.
